A side-by-side look at what helps the crew move efficiently — and what can add time. These are illustrative examples, not photographs of our actual jobs.

A sturdy box with its flaps closed and securely taped.
An open box with belongings piled above the top or balanced on it.
Open or overflowing boxes may need repacking before they can be carried and stacked safely.

A manageable bag securely tied or zipped.
An open bag with clothing or belongings spilling out.
Open bags can spill during handling. Securing or repacking them adds preparation time. Use sturdy boxes for fragile or heavy belongings.

Small belongings packed in closed boxes or suitable containers.
Loose clothing, toys, household items, and miscellaneous belongings scattered around.
Small belongings should be packed in closed boxes or suitable containers. Gathering and packing loose belongings can require additional trips and preparation time.

A box in good condition that can be handled without its bottom failing.
A bulging, torn, weak, or excessively heavy box.
Use smaller boxes for heavy items such as books. Weak or overloaded boxes may need repacking.

Clear doorways, halls, stairs, and a route to the truck.
Boxes, belongings, or furniture blocking access.
Clear doorways, halls, stairs, and the route to the truck before the crew arrives. Clearing blocked access during the job can add time.
You don't need to box large furniture. Small, loose belongings need suitable containers; furniture protection and any agreed disassembly are addressed in the job scope.
Instead of writing on every box, try using colored duct tape. Just pick a color for each room and stick a strip on every box. For example:
| Tape Color | Room |
|---|---|
Red | Master Bedroom |
Blue | Living Room |
Yellow | Kitchen |
Green | Bathroom |
Orange | Kids' Bedroom |
Purple | Office |
Brown | Dining Room |
Black | Garage/Utility Room |
White | Laundry Room |
Pink | Guest Bedroom |
